DIY 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 Fuel Pump Replace Install, One Person Method

This video shows how to replace the fuel pump on a Dodge Ram 2500, 8.0L V10. Like most trucks, fuel pump is located under the bed, and so to remove the pump, you must either:

1.) Remove the bed; or
2.) Drop the fuel tank; or
3.) Use the tilt-bed method.

This video shows the tilt-bed method, which can be done by one person.

Here’s a link to a video to help you diagnose your fuel pump issues on a Dodge Ram 2500, 8.0L V10 (and other vehicles):

Also, here is the link to D-Ray’s shop, as shown in the video; his channel is “D-Ray Smith”:

Thanks for watching. I hope this helps.

Good luck on your repair.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I noticed gasoline leaking from where the fuel line goes into the fuel pump. The first video I watched showed a guy totally removing the bed because he thought he had a leaking fuel pump. Turns out it was just a broken retainer clip. I'm hoping that's all that's wrong with my '06 1500 because it appears to be a common problem with Dodges. Next came the debate over dropping the tank or removing the bed. I've watched several videos and read several online forums and it appears slightly skewed towards removing the bed although most used hoists, forklifts, backhoes, etc. or extra help. I was thinking about dropping the tank, but of course I had just filled the tank. I was considering driving it until it was near empty before I read about one guy who didn't know the retainer clip had broken until his truck died when the fuel line came off and sprayed gasoline everywhere. I read in one of the comments about a lady who did it by herself using the side tilt method. My eyes were blurry after watching videos and reading forums until 2AM. I'm glad I finally found your video, now I have the confidence to try this myself.

How many miles were on this truck when its factory pump finally quit ? Does anyone know the typical age or mileage when factory pumps go bad so one could go ahead and change it out to avoid getting stranded?
Thanks
