5th wheel complete install on Dodge. Curt brand on 2001 Cummins 2500.

We start with a Curt E16 brand fifth wheel hitch, item number 16115, and install it on a 2001 Dodge 2500 Cummins. This kit installs on Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and even Toyota…. (Not that Toyota could pull a fifth wheel trailer)

This kit appeared easy at first but was difficult to install. The instructions weren’t very accurate for this 2001 Dodge but would probably be better on a different truck. The issues weren’t too difficult to fix but plan on moving the rails around to fit best for your application and drilling most of the mounting holes.

The instructions recommend the center of the hitch to be located 2″ in front of the rear axle. When I finished with the install, my hitch was closer to 2″ behind the rear axle, which I don’t think will supply affect the performance.

If you find a better way to install this hitch, please let me know in the comment section. Thanks for watching!

Do you know the measurements to install rails in a longbed?

I install these for a living. I also tow with them for a living also as my second job. The bolt that goes through the cross member is the correct location for that row of bolts on the rail. You have to use what is referred to as a Handle Nut for that bolt. It is literally a 3/4" nut that is pre-welded to a long handle. One person holds the handle Nut inside the cross member from the side of the truck while one person in the bed lines up the bolt and spins the bolt to grab a few threads and then the person in the bed can zap a 3/4" Grade 5 bolt (not a carriage bolt) from the top of the bed, and because the nut has a handle, it will prevent itself from just spinning when you hit it with an impact from the top because the handle wedges itself inside the cross member. Actually a lot easier than it sounds. I've done it tons of times.

Would I be able to install this if I installed a airbag towing kit
