2001 Dodge Dakota Rear Latch Handle Fix and Replace Free DIY

2001 Dodge Dakota Rear Latch Handle Fix and Replace Free DIY

I just bought my new truck! 2001 Dodge Dakota 4.7L with the tow package.
The rear latch handle was stuck open, which was making it so the liftgate would not stay shut. In this video, I show you how to remove the handle and fix it using some brake cleaner and transmission fluid.

Once you get the latch free’d up, it is a good idea to add some grease to it so it won’t get frozen again. You could also replace the handle if you want, but I decided to keep my original one as it was functioning 100% after the fix. You can find the handle and latch assembly for about $20 dollars on eBay, which isn’t too expensive.

Thanks for watching and let me know if there are any questions!
