Chrysler / Dodge : TIPM Repair – No Wipers

In this video I help my sister out by repairing her TIPM (totally integrated power module) on her 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.6L. The customer complaint was, no wipers. A quick diagnosis revealed a “wiper on/off” relay on the printed circuit board to be at fault. Now this is way out of my wheel house but I figured I had nothing to loose. You will see, the struggle was real in this one… good news is, it worked in the end and I learned a few things along the way. -Enjoy!

Another method , that is less stressful to the circuit board, is to "chew" around the relay with sharp cutters, cutting the pins off of the relay, to free the relay but leave the pins in the board. Then heat the pins individually . Pull the loosed pin with pliers or push it out thru the hole. A wooden toothpick works well for that and can be used to open a hole that has filled in with solder. Push the toothpick through the molten solder and let it cool. The solder wick will also pull the solder out of a board hole. Flux helps the solder flow whether removing or adding solder. If flux is added to the wick, it will wick better. The flux in the hypo looking tubes(ebay) is easier to apply. Alcohol or brake cleaner on a toothbrush will remove the flux residue.
I would have tried to ohm between the wiper motor terminal pins and the relays to ID which of the 4 relays was for the wiper.

I don't see the difference between resoldering the pins on an instrument cluster or replacing the gauge motors and replacing a relay in the fuse box(TIPM). Both are valid repair procedures.

Judging from the response, I would suggest doing one of these whenever the opportunity presents.

I have a 2004 Dodge 2500 and continuously have lamp out and it is often the TIPM that needs replaced, they last about 2 years before it needs replaced. I grew up your way and may take a trip up.

Maybe a company should take notice and start something of repairs on this box other company's do thing like this before on other things. Like my buddus class a coach gm dash when out sent it in they repaired and updated it.

I thought when the coil was energized the electromagnet pulled the switch to it and competed the circuit, not pushed the switch. Looking at the board from here, it looks like some legs could use some fresh solder. The factory didn't do a perfect solder job.
