Torklift Ecohitch unboxing and DIY install on a Chevy Bolt

A do-it-yourself installation of Torklift’s Ecohitch on the Chevrolet Bolt. The Ecohitch by Torklift is a bolt-on hitch that involves removing the entire back bumper of the Chevy Bolt, as well as making a cut in the bumper fascia to accommodate the hitch. This hitch is rated at 300 lbs tongue weight and 2000 lbs towing weight. This DIY video is different from others in a few ways. We do a different cut in the bumper fascia, leaving a 1.5″ strip of plastic instead of cutting all the way through the bumper. We also do not skip over the most difficult bolts to remove, nor do we leave any of our struggles out.

Here are links to skip to relevant sections of the video. You’ll note we do them slightly out of order in the end but that doesn’t really matter as you’ll see:
0:00 – Intro
0:52 – Unboxing
2:39 – Step 1: Remove 2 T15 Torx head screws near rear lights
3:24 – Step 2: Remove Torx scerws from wheel well and underside
6:30 – Step 3: Remove pop rivets from underside of bumper
7:54 – Step 4: Pry back wheel well trim, remove hidden Torx screw
10:43 – Step 5: Unplug main wire connection
11:11 – Step 6: Gently peel off bumper
12:23 – Step 9: Remove crash guard with M10 hex socket. Install hitch.
14:34 – Step 7&8 (modified): Cut out hole in bumper fascia
16:06 – Step 7&8 (cont’d): explanation of our cut vs. the cut suggested in instructions
19:59 – Reinstalling the bumper
21:59 – Going back through all steps in reverse to refasten the bumper
25:54 – The end with the kids

If you want to see how the fine folks at etrailer remove the bumper (step 6), you can find that portion of their video here: https://youtu.be/J1pkojVtweI?t=384

Really appreciated the detail that went into each step. Very helpful for my own successful install. We ran into a small difference in that the rear brake lights cable was still attached to the crash guard, so had to put it close by while doing the other steps. Also realized we only needed to peel 2 plastic rivets in Step 4. I peeled a 3rd and broke it (doh).

Would you be willing to share the instructions that came with your hitch? I got one of these but it didn't come with the written instructions and Torklift will not send me any for some reason.
Would be greatly appreciated.

Vince Fries says:

have you towed with it yet?

Alex Moreno says:

So, did you remove the bumper again for installing the wiring harness?

Great video! A hitch for my Bolt is definitely on the list! Do you know if there are any warranty implications if you do tow something with it?
