awesome. about to go out and do this myself. thanks for posting.

Amanda Allen says:

Dear drummer17562
You are a clown!
You can buy all the Brembo, Willwood, or Baer equipment you want, it is
still an HHR.What are you talking about?
You reply to a video that is obviously for beginners and say don’t go to
Sears or Midas or any other reputable, convenient, and most importantly
WARRANTIED big box and get service (they use warrentied parts that wear
quick they replace worn parts free of charge quick).Next just swap out your
rear axle for junkyard stuff and then replace everything you just swapped
out with brand new and the most expensive parts you can “adapt” or “rig” in
(on your brakes no-less). You do not post the gains expected or any results
of improvement to back up your claims. YOU KNOW AS I DO, YOU ARE NOT GOING
TO REDUCING BRAKING DISTANCE BY ANY SIGNIFICANCE WITHOUT CHANGING TO LARGER
DIAMETER ROTORS, MULTI-PISTON CALIPERS, AND PADS TO MATCH! Then you get to
the BOSCH anti lock brake control Chevy uses (don’t buy Bosch hmmmmm?) I do
agree with you on avoiding some things but, I would think the dealership’s
Mr. Good-Wrench man’s $119.99 an axle brake service, if done at proper
intervals, will suit most people and is reasonable and legal (as in you hit
someone or hurt someone with your brake system engineering and see how
quick you get sued! Pray that they don’t find you criminally responsible or
negligent). As for the durability factor, quick stopping pads burn up
quick, long-lasting pads don,t stop as well. It’s a trade off as with life
bro get real. The warping is also due to heat buildup on rotor surface
changing the internal structure of whole regions of crystals. I would have
to look deeper to insure other factors such as creep, corrosion, or fatigue
are not also contributing to the issue at hand. Maybe you should have just
suggested some pricey ceramic rotors that are impervious to said issues.
I’m just saying a lot of hassle to stop three feet shorter from 60 mph in a
jalopy HHR congratulations sir you are a TURD.. What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

drummer17562 says:

Unfortunately, the mechanic made 1 error: reused the caliper mounting bolts
– the manual states the caliper mounting bolts are NOT to be reused. These
particular calipers are OEM by ATE with a GM (Delco) outsourced 275.8 mm
dia rotor for this model of HHR. Most HHR owners replace the lower quality
GM part with the originally designed ATE (designed to be mated with their
caliper) or other aftermarket rotor as the GM rotors are not as robust as
they need to be; causing the COMMON problem that is mentioned in this
video… disc warping. The rear OEM drums, shoes, and wheel cylinders are
made by Bendix. MINTEX or PAGID shoes from TMD will improve rear braking
on drum brakes. Consider an upgrade to disc brakes for rear drums using a
complete Cobalt axle… the parking brake will require a little tweaking.
(Morse brake parts ref.numbers are now Bosch as Bosch acquired Morse, I
would steer clear of them.) EBC, Brembo, ATE, TMD brands, Ferodo, and
Galfer (only in Europe for cars) are quality brake products overall. Std
front disc pads are ceramic for the HHR… substitution with metal-particle
based “racing or ultra-high performance” pads will increase rotor wear!!!
Whatever you do, do not go to MIDAS or other supermarket-type retail
outlets (SEARS/KMart) for brake work as the parts they use are nowhere near
the quality for durability and longevity of brake system components that I
am discussing here and it will cost you just as much.

William Carroll says:

Excellent video. That was a great video that showed a man step by step on
how to go about putting the pads on the way a professional mechanic would
do. This helps me a whole lot. I am going to put a set of brake pads on an
HHR tomorrow morning. I know I can do it now. Thanks a lot for your help.

kiwionarope says:

Just paid a mechanic $350 CND to do the front pads and rear shoes. I don’t
have a garage and I cant do it in the driveway as there’s a foot of snow
and I like my ass dry.

robinsonsauto says:

as long as you don’t remove a brake line or loosing the bleeder, there
shouldn’t be any reason to bleed them, hope it helps

Steve Rob says:

Great vid Will. What are your thoughts on pinching off the brake hose and
opening the bleeder screw prior to compressing the caliper. Some say its a
must and some dont bother.

Paul Needler says:

Hi – great vid. Give me the confidence to change these myself, and I will.
One question: could you review the caliper maintenance? I am told by a
mechanic that if these are not maintained every 6 months, that this can
cause the warping to the rotors. I figure while I have the calipers off,
that I can do the maintenance or replacement if needed. Thanks!

REXROTH61 says:

ok, i finally got it, after beatin’ the piss out of the rotor. but anyway,
thanks for the vid cuz i thought i was doin’ something wrong until i
watched this

robinsonsauto says:

your welcome, that’s a big savings, good job

Amanda Moulton says:

Where do you recommend purchasing rotors and brake pads? Also, what size
wrench are using?

Felipe says:

My brake pedal shakes at almost complete stop. I have replaced all 4 rotors
and brake pads n still shakes. Any ideas on what is going on? By the way I
drive a 2005 Silverado ss Awd. Thanks.

daalpujr3 says:

My mom has a 07 hhr and when she is doing more then 25mph the steering
wheel shakes really bad and there is a loud knocking sound. is that because
her brakes are bad or her rotors or both? it is getting really bad and my
parents don’t have the extra money to pay someone to fix it. Is it an easy
fix? i was unable to play the video

REXROTH61 says:

i beat the piss out of the rotor and it still wouldn’t come off : ( exact
same model of car : (

81anngie says:

Just wanted to say thanks so much for this video! I am a mother of two with
a part time job, I try to save money wherever I can. My rotors were warped,
I watched your video and changed them myself! I don’t have a mechanic
background but I do have machining experience, so I grasped the concept
easily. Thank you!!!

Dopeweed98 says:

Excuse me, how would I go about bleeding the brakes, or is it necessary?

robinsonsauto says:

@tarekyahia thank you, good luck with it

Curt Landis says:

Where are the anti rattle clips that go on the pads??…On the inside or
outside pads? I didn’t see them on your installation..they snap on the
front pads don’t they?

robinsonsauto says:

@Bonfield2002 they say its a good practice, however to be honest i don’t
bother haven’t had an issue to date, not to say i never will. brake jobs
are one of the most common task when it comes to inspections, needless to
say i do a lot of them a couple a week, thanks for the comment

dan7436 says:

wow awesome vid 9:00 minutes for a brake job i got a 2011 hhr ill be
watching this and changing mine thanks for the info

robinsonsauto says:

sorry for the late response, if its brake related she will get the shacking
when she applies the brakes indicating a warped rotor. if its occurring
without applying the brakes then most likely its a tire balance issue, the
noise may be a loose component. example, a stabilizer link. hope this helps

gixxerj2010 says:

sweet video very professional! A++++ I will be doing this soon to our hhr.

robinsonsauto says:

@REXROTH61 glad you got it, yea they can be a bear sometimes, im starting a
new forum on my website, toolsandtime. if you ever have a question or
anything. feel free and stop by the forum sign up its free. post any
question. im there more than here and can get back to you much sooner. glad
you got it

Colette Sweet says:

Thank you for posting this video. I went to a local brake place and they
wanted $350-$400 to do this job. I decided I can do it myself for (much)
less. It is good to see a visual though, and i’ll have something to refer
to if needed.

Holiday Betti says:

Hey my tail lights and radio lights are off..on my ’09 HHR really like your
stuff..pls help.could you help.? I’ll pay for consultation…thx

REXROTH61 says:

i just did this exact job today while half drunk : ) thanks for the great
vid! it helped tremendously!

tarek yahia says:
