Thomas Nehren says:

Just did this repair thanks to your video and parts. Quick and easy. My wife is super happy that the lift gate won’t fall on her head anymore while she’s loading groceries at Costco.

Timo Hairston says:

Thanks for the video! I spent more time trying to figure out the name of the part than it took me to change both of them out!

John Seattle says:

Please note: The strut in this video was installed in the opposite direction of manufacturer's recommended application. For this GMC application the shaft (skinny part) should be installed in the "shaft down" position when the door is closed. If you look at the beginning and the end of the video, the strut that was removed was in the shaft down position (0:52 in video); it was installed in the 'shaft up' position (2:13 of video). Both orientations obviously work. The shaft down position, if possible, is recommended for longer life.

D Otto says:

You installed the new struts upside down.

Peter Notarfrancesco says:

Do you need to add a grease such as Lubriplate to the ball on the vehicle before installing replacements?

John Bright says:

You installed the new parts reverse of how the old parts came out (i.e. Larger diameter end on top when they old parts came out. Smaller diameter end on top when you installed the new ones.) Does the orientation of the new support strut matter?

Followed the vid and changed my tailgate lift support. Easy fix, thanks!!!

GarciaDF123 says:

Thank you for the helpful video and the parts. Replacing and installing took 5 minutes!

RONY LEYVA says:

Thanks for the video ✌

suckafoo99 says:

Does direction of mounting not matter? Function check worked beautifully, but struts were replaced opposite of removal. Just wondering if this is a range of motion bi-directional type deal? Thank you for all the videos you produce and all the money you save people.

russellelmore says:

Good intel on your video. How often do struts last under normal usage? Local GM dealership replaced liftgate motor and then maybe 12 months later replaced Struts within the last year. Did not fix problem. I've since disabled power to liftgate and only use manual lift. Now the lift gate motor has started immediately shutting the door as soon as you start to manually open liftgate – this is still with the power mode switched off at the overhead dash.

Spikes Hostage TV says:

the gasket rings on the inside of those old ones must gone bad can't hold air to keep your tailgate up
