Properly installing your distributor involves a little bit more than just stabbing it in and setting the timing. In this video, budget build garage shows you how to check the distributor depth to make sure you don’t cause premature wear to either your distributor or your camshaft. You’ll learn why it is necessary to install the distributor in correct alignment, and how to install a distributor in correct alignment. Nick also explains and demonstrates setting TDC, top dead center, on the engine, as well as initial settings on the distributor itself. This video should help you start your engine so that you can break in that cam. It’s really important to try and get these things started as smoothly and easily and quickly as possible so you don’t cause any long-term damage.
Thanks for watching everyone. Let me know what you think. Do you adjust timing differently or install distributors differently?
Spider man works on cars now??
Next time definitely open the garage and air it out a tad lol
Good video cheers ! Best part was when the wife didn't know what way to turn the key even thought the car was running lol .
Thanks Great help
I've been timing engines for 60 years and you just did the best I've seen on YT, simple to the point.
Dont wear jewelry haha
Most people I know use a screwdriver to align the oil pump shaft. Didn't know it could be so easy to just drop it in and turn the crank haha. Great tip!
I just throw them in, find what it's pointing at, and wire it accordingly. Never used a timing light ever. Later on if replacing the distributor I do actually try and match it up one for one.
Nice video. That engine does look good in there!
Do one on 289. It would be much appreciated. Thanks
