How to fix 2002-2007 chevrolet ac that switches to heat on its own- drivers side blend door actuator

Drivers side AC would switch to heat by itself. Blend door actuator needs to be taken out and cleaned. I just used a paper towel and it has been working fine ever since.

THANK YOU! Female with NO knowledge of cars. Took me about an hour. As soon as I opened it, I saw a glob of lubricant that I’m sure was disrupting the connections. Thanks for the explanation as to why! No money, a paper towel, and an hour of my time.

USMotorHead says:

Just worked for me! Thanks for posting. Take your time with tabs and they won't break.

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra Classic. I was having cold air on the passenger side and HEAT on the driver's side. Did the reset and it changed nothing. Manually flipping the door to cold air was perfect in this Tennessee heat. Many thanks for this video!!!! I'll try cleaning and resetting again. Hopefully, this will fix my problem. Either way, manual is working great!!!

35 minutes. All fixed. I watched a video years ago of someone that took their dash apart… I decided to live with pulling the fuse once a month to fix the issue. That option left today with about 30 seconds before it returned to heat. Thanks for the easy fix.

I have a 2002 Tahoe LT model and this actuator seem to work all the front vents, driver and passenger side. I have taken it off now but haven't had time to clean it up. Just put a small pair of vise grips on the door to operator it. With nothing on it it would bang back when going around a corner and start throwing hot air again. Well that would be great if it were cold weather all day long. We been getting up to 60's in afternoon and it's to hot for that full heat coming from front vents. so yeah I guess the fail mode is heater on that blend door.

Derek Stout says:

Not only did you show me how replace my actuator, but you explained the how and why, which was awesome. Thanks for this great video!

This helped me. Turn on your A/C to the highest blower setting and let it run 5 minutes, then dial up the heat leaving the blower in highest position for five minutes. this should resent your actuator to correctly blow hot or cold.

Dude awesome thanks been dealing with this shit for a year easy fix

Chris Honke says:

This worked, 04 Denali
DO NOT test actuator while disconnected from hvac door, clean the gear grease from brass terminals and bend contacts down just a bit for better connection.Don't forget to do the relearn procedure after re installing also. Thanks for the video help

Really good note about just manually flipping the door open or closed if you're on the road.
