Ok Great video but couple questions, I just did Timing chain on 2002 Avalanche 1500 and now getting P0332 (Knock Sensor) so figured if I did Timing Chain I can do this. How long did it take? anything else you would recommend to replace while this all apart? When I did Timing chain I replaced covers, oil pump, water pump, belts and tensioners

You’re not very big on cleanliness are you? Doesn’t seem like you’d get a very good seal on those intake ports with all that dirt and grease on the mating surfaces.im not too die if I would want all that runoff going onto the oil sending unit or cam sensor I’m currently doing my 04 5.3l knock sensors,I’m using a shop vac to suck all the dirt and crud off of my engine so as to not make it go inside the heads-I’ll also be thoroughly cleaning all gasket mating surfaces and replacing the valley gasket/fuel injector o rings while I’m at it dirt is not your friend here.

My CEL popped on for the rear sensor a week ago. I cleared it and it hasn't come back on, but I know it's only a matter of time, especially since I'm one of those that clean the engine every 6 months or so. Thanks for the video. Will reference it when I get the lucky draw.

James Reynolds says:

Hey you are alot more calmer then I would be lmao.. Thanks for the video. AC delco are more exspensive for a reason lol

Robert Munguia says:

Just saw your video pretty nice job! I have the same problem and I got knock sensors from O’reilly and still reading check engine light. Do you recommend original sensors?

avalanche says:

Great information. Thanks

Luis Martínez says:

Does it matter if you put the Green in the front and the blue in the back the cables for the knock sensors? Can anybody know let me know I'm doing them right now

Bryce Midas Vlogs says:

Hey Brian, great video! Helped a whole ton….can you or someone knowledgeable please confirm that it doesn't matter which lead goes to the front or rear knock sensor. In your video you put the blue wire from the harness to the front sensor and green to the back. Are these reverseable?? Please help I don't want to risk breaking the connector or new cones of the sensor trying to swap.

Brian,I washed my engine for the first time on a 99 using the water hose and some 409 and sure enough a day later i get the code for bad knock sensors. There is no way for the water to evaporate or does it short out the sensors and ruin them.I have 125,000 miles and the only owner. Thanks for the video

Brett McReynolds says:

Brian I cannot thank you enough for posting these vid's – I was at a serious stress point and your videos are like zen auto repair – your commentary is both calming and informative!! I love the way you talk through every step you are a tru pro! In a world of bullS*@# you are contibuting something real! Dude keep it up!!

Marcos Roman says:

Jose Calderon says:

James Holbrook says:

ya im about to have to do mine again i had one bad one and went and bought the cheapest ones one ebay i paid like $26 for both and a new harness the i kept the good one so im going to put that one in and see whats up but i may just buy a new acdelco one so i dont have to do it again but i dont know

Jesse Ruiz says:

based on where the sensors are located doesn't seem like u can test them so basically if u get the code on these GM 5.3 should u just replace them and the harness?

Keep the chemical fumes to a minimum while having that beautiful wife of yours assist you while she is pregnant. You don't want to brain damage your child where he or she becomes pre destined to be auto technician like the rest of us.

Hey Brian love the video everything went well until I went to torque the intake manifold bolts. I did not have an inch pound torque wrench I used a 1/2 inch ft pound one and I thought I converted into NM correctly.NOT! 🙂 I broke a bolt and am thinking about using a 5/64th screw extractor. Is this worth a shot and also having a hard time finding a new bolt. Do you think I can reuse the old bolts or are they one time use? Any help appreciated. 🙂

My truck has 6,000 miles on it….no check engine or any lights….i did wash engine bay once with light water …any ideas…i put 93 in it with half a tank of 87 from the same mobil station and problem went away….i am going to send to dealer, any ideas or tips? Doubt its a knock sensor at 6k miles…

Shondas Luv says:

When you do this job, cover your intake ports with tape, especially if you blow it out with compressed air. You don't want dirt down inside those ports and cylinders.

Excellent video!

I have always shared as much knowledge as I could when I worked in shops… But some things, the new tech has to go through the learning curve and experience the bumps and bruises and mistakes to truly understand what's going on…. regardless, great video!
