Chevy Silverado DIY Budget E-Fan Install

Needed to convert up to E-fans from the archaic fan clutch, and didn’t want to spend ~$400 on fans from a newer style truck, so I hit the U-Pull-It yard for …

Yes, but this was cheaper. Plus i like being creative with wiring.

Crystal Soto-Solis says:

Thanks Rober for that info! Nelson performance sales that same product

Crystal Soto-Solis says:

You could have gotten the fans off of a newer Silverado like 06 or 07 !!

Robert Ries says:

You can get brand new fans from Rockauto.com they are a bolt in fit and not from some other car. 05-up pickups and they have their own shrouds.
then you can get a wire harness from LS1fan.com

gman4dx266 says:

Man I don’t have a part number on them since I got them out of the junk yard. look in an early 90s GM fwd car. it is the fan that is mounted in an “X” bracket. I believe they’re used as a condensor fan on those cars but I’m not sure.

Doug Roberts says:

thanks for software info what fan did you get for what car can I get a part number or something so I can go look for some

This is a 2002 Chevy silverado 1500HD with a 6.0L. The hardware and software is HP Tuners, with the scanner part of the software running on the laptop

Doug Roberts says:

What year car and what scanner are you using

rrbigdan1 says:

I bought a pair of aftermarket fans to install on my 04′ 2500HD, I want to rip out the mechanical fan to gain a little more hp and mpg…installing the fans is easy. As far as the electonics…I was thinking of runing: Ground from fan straight to the frame…than 12V+ from battery to a 200 degree sensor than from sensor to 12V fan lead. This was the fan would be controlled by the temp sensor however I like your way more. Can you explain a little more how you did the electrical?

Thanks!

blkblky says:

I can install the fans pretty easy but am confused on the wiring,.. weather to have them on all the time or have like a relay or automatic switch..any advice or video recommendations..i have a 2000 4.8 silverado

gman4dx266 says:

@Seantopps i am using hptuners to program the turn on and turn off switch points in the fan part of the tune. i was demonstrating the real time controls in this video

Seantopps says:

what programmer are you using to turn the fans on?

gman4dx266 says:

@calilondono, yes I actually went to work on the factory shroud with some aviation snips to cut for clearance. I installed both top and bottom shrouds back in. Looks factory and cools awesome! Mine overheated in hot day traffic, not sure about hills.

Carlos Londoño says:

Did you install the shroud back again? I had to do than with my truck, because it worked fine in traffic jams but overheated when climbing hills.

gman4dx266 says:

*RPMs not toms lol

gman4dx266 says:

@mr03terminator: Neither just yet. I have only put about 200 miles on it mostly city driving to test how it does in stopped traffic in 98 degree weather. I guess it does wind up in toms a bit quicker, seems that way to me anyway. What I have definitely noticed is colder and constantly colder AC which is great!

mr03teminator says:

nice so did u notice better gas milage or horsepower
