This video covers the process of replacing the exhaust system from the muffler to the tailpipe on a 2011 Chevy Equinox. The process covered in this video will be the same or similar on many other vehicles including a GMC Terrain and GMC Acadia. In this video, I replace the muffler, intermediate pipe, resonator, hangers and clamps on a 2011 Chevy Equinox. The muffler often develops a leak at the welded seam on a Chevy Equinox with a 2.4-liter engine.
The process covered in this video repair tutorial will be the same or similar on most vehicles including U.S. and Canadian models of:
2005 – 2016 Chevrolet Equinox
2005 – 2012 Pontiac Torrent
2005 – 2016 GMC Acadia
2005 – 2016 GMC Terrain

FYI, you don't technically have to buy the rear most muffler if you don't want to. It is possible just to cut the OEM pipe at the right spot, there's another video floating out there that will demonstrate such. This is what I did on my 2013 equinox, with no leaks having just used basic auto parts store horseshoe clamps.

A lot of tutorials and nobody use exhaust paste

Jerry Palamar says:

Great video…did it today Great instructions .

jerkychew899 says:

Great video and I really appreciate the attention to detail by showing the offset of the Walker setup.

BOOT says:

Cool might just do this myself since they make the parts. Last couple times I had some work done at my local muffler shop they just ordered the stuff and I had to wait anyway

mjkirk12 says:

Great video. Thanks for pointing out the muffler offset issue – I noticed that also. Good to know that the pipe will compensate.

TheMboe76 says:

Don't you have to weld the seams?

Rick Simmons says:

I take offense to what you said about muffler shops being a muffler shop
I think your video sucked

Brian T says:

I am so glad you made this video. I replaced the exhaust on my wife's 2014 Equinox today with the parts you listed, I ordered them all from Rockauto.com. Thank you for mentioning the pipe expander too. I was able to rent one from Advance Auto and it saved me. Thank you again for posting this video.

93sundance says:

with exception of the muffler that cheap ass pipe will maybe last 2 years and it will rot out. sucks that they don't make an actual replacement resonator

Y X says:

Good Video! Curious though, why cut the rear muffler off first? When you remove the mid muffler doesn't the whole thing come off all together?

7thsign The Northcoast1 says:

you said resonator, that is what is wrong with mine, but on you list, is that what you are calling the mid muffler?

Paul Disher says:

Nice Job!
Must have warmed up a bit where your at, definitely a Spring, Summer, or Fall job (for me anyway) 🙂
Difficult to film, so thanks for the footage!
Great Video!
