Oh man this guy is a blessing. Just repaired my 2009 Cadillac CTS. Damage was in the exact same area.
Appreciate the previous comment as well as I also did not have to remove the entire cover.
On a side note I had two wires cut the second one was for my center brake light mounted on the trunk.
If you have access to heat shrink this is better than tape, all my wires had the insulation cut but only two wires were cut in half.

Oh man this guy is a blessing. Just repaired my 2009 Cadillac Cts. Damage was in the exact same area, but I saved some time doing it. I didn't remove the entire panel, I just removed to two plastic screws in the immediate are of the electrical wiring, pulled it out after removing the two other plastic screws that had it attached to the trunk, removed the tape and there it was. We're all good now. Thanks a million RepaidED
