CADILLAC CTS KEY STUCK IN IGNITION NO COMM DIAGNOSIS & FIX

CADILLAC CTS KEY STUCK IN IGNITION NO COMM DIAGNOSIS & FIX

In today’s case study we are looking at a 2007 Cadillac CTS with a V6 3.6L engine. The customers complaint is that the vehicle intermittently will not start, also the key is stuck in the ignition lock cylinder. The vehicle will not release the key. On top of those concerns, the charging system is not charging as it should. charging sytem voltage hovers around 12.5v while running and only intermittently will it begin charging normal. The shop that was looking at the vehicle noted that when they used a scan tool to check for codes, they found multiple communication codes for the class 2 serial data bus network. Follow along as I take you step by step through my diagnostic and troubleshooting procedure to figure out what is wrong with this vehicle and how to fix it.

Greetings Eric, do you have a shop you know of in the Orlando fla area that can do the same things you just did in this video. The dealer here won't tell you that they have no clue as to the problem. Twice they changed out the EMC and the Traction Control module (both Used) and still the same results. charged me several hours work, and for the modules, but didn't fix the problem

Liberty Justice says:

When they started having to put ECMs in vehicles because of government emission controls, they became rediculously expensive and hard to diagnose. The more we sophisticate, the more we complicate.

Derek Simenac says:

Bad ECM for a resistor, 5 minute fix with a 50 cent resistor and a soldering iron

sheeshalready says:

Brother, I cannot imagine how stressful each time you knew it had to be the new computer, and you had to tell the shop. Off camera, you did what we all would have done, gone over and over the diagnosis because now, if you are wrong, you look unreliable, unprofessional, not the expert they are paying for. Good job…wow!

Too much info for nothing

chris ferebee says:

Had this exact same problem with my Mom & Dad 05 Cadillac SRX 3.6L. He ended up going with a remanufactured ECM from Flagship One. The first one was bad but the second was good. There is a small hole on the bottom of the steering column on the right side where a small screw driver can be put in there to release the key. This is a classic GM problem. Great video.

Do you have a contact number to reach you

Ernie Carrasco says:

My friend gave me his 2003 CTS 3.2 L 5 speed manual transmission because he hated it. The guy that traded it to him, when my friend got into some police evading trouble and needed to off his own ride and which was a car that he had just paid 10,000 dollars for, had a body shop so he had my Cadillac looking nice but didn't know beans about mechanics so he hated it too since it had the limp mode problem. They thought it needed a new tranny. Lol. All I did was this procedure and the procedure where you wait 20 seconds wait and turn off and on the ignition without starting the ignition 3 times and boom! I have a bad ass sports luxury sedan! It has 150,000 miles on it. I'm never gonna stop driving it! It just needed the relearn procedure to the accelerator pedal positon sensor. The check engine light code P2138.
