This video highlights installation of a REAR air suspension conversion kit by Strutmasters for the 2005 to 2011 series of Cadillac STS vehicles.
IMPORTANT: There may have been some updates to the instructions since this video was made. Please FOLLOW THE PAPER INSTRUCTIONS included in the Strutmasters product. They will supplant any information in the video.
If you have NOT bought your product yet, call Strutmasters at 866-597-2397 and ask about our money-saving offer to fix all four wheels of your vehicle. Since the product differs for all-wheel drive versions of these vehicles, it is vital to get the full vehicle ID number (VIN) before calling.
Millions of these sporty Cadillacs were sold with a hybrid active suspension — electronic struts in the front and air shocks in the rear. This video deals with the REAR only. For the best possible result and ride quality, Strutmasters recommends converting the front electronic struts at the same time you do the rear.
The Cadillac shown in the video is one of hundreds of vehicles we have fixed at our headquarters in North Carolina. We work on vehicles every day to improve our instructions and create new product. This Cadillac had an air compressor that had quit running and worn out air shocks. For less than the cost of one component at the dealer, we were able to fix the entire vehicle in our shop.
With an older, high-mileage vehicle, your choices regarding the factory suspension may be limited:
1) You Can Do Nothing: Some vehicles are nearly IMPOSSIBLE to drive when the computerized factory suspension goes bad. And if you DO keep driving the vehicle, it is DANGEROUS. Some suspension failures end very badly, even causing an accident.
2) Fix It At The Dealer: Perfect solution IF you are willing to spend potentially MORE than the vehicle is worth just to fix the factory suspension. Most customers don’t have the money. The ones that do are too smart to sink three grand or more into just ONE repair.
3) Trade It or Sell It: Good luck with getting a fair price for an almost undriveable vehicle. Do you really want to get rock bottom value for a vehicle you loved prior to the suspension failure? And can you take on ANOTHER luxury vehicle payment that can easily land in the $500 to $800 a month range for years to come? Plus your insurance will go way up.
4) Throw Parts At It: We have had thousands of customers go this route and they later regret it. ALL of these active factory suspensions are complicated and expensive to repair. Even cheap, imitation aftermarket replacement parts can still add up to thousands in repairs. Lastly, do you really want to work on the same issue over and over? Not us!
5) Convert The Suspension With Strutmasters: Now you are talking! We have helped tens of thousands of customers hang onto their vehicles for several more years by installing a Strutmasters conversion kit. We offer products for almost every brand of vehicle equipped with an computerized active factory suspension. Our kits come with detailed instructions so you can install it yourself or speed up the process for a professional mechanic.
