How do I know if I need to replace them anyway? Mine make an annoying as
fuck squeaking noise and I don’t know if it’s because they need replacing
or if it’s normal.

Very helpful video with great tips. The instructions on the replacement
blade packages were useless and I just couldn’t figure out how to remove
the old blades. I watched the video then went out to my car and was able

Can’t even tell how to get the blades off….
In a modern (from about 2005 to present) VW you can turn the ignition on,
turn it back off again while leaving the key in the ignition, and then
press down once on the wiper stalk. The window wipers should come up and
stop when they are fully up ;)

Thank you Eric! I like your method of running the wipers until they are
pointing up.
When I change wiper blades, I use an old T-shirt or a cleaning rag. After I
remove the first wiper, I rest the wiper arm against the windshield with
the T-shirt for padding. This way I don’t have to worry about the wiper arm
smacking into the windshield!
Here’s a helpful thing for everyone to know! On a cold winter day, if you
start the car, turn on the windshield wipers and they don’t move because
they are frozen in place, then you need to get out and break those wipers
free!
Otherwise the wipers will still be trying to finish their sweep, even
though you turned them off. And you will likely burn out your windshield
wiper motor. I learned this from Bill Osborne, my high school buddy. This
happened to Bill’s mom. Her windshield wipers were frozen, so she drove to
work with the defroster on high, but the windshield wipers were still
trying to move. That burned out her windshield wiper motor. So Bill
replaced the windshield wiper motor for her.

Wiperblades. If it rattles or makes mechanical noise, it might be the
bolt/nut.
Not the windscreen itself; the paint on the hood.

They dont, SUV’s do too.
Halford will do simple jobs like that, and they will also fix your car
etc.. there not just a parts store. get your facts right.
I decided to spend a little money and buy the good bosch wiper blades, they
have worked beautifully for over 2 years and they are still good. I
recommend those to anyone
Its supposed to be that way, they are staggered so that they both clean off
an arc that the other wiper missed
I’m sure this has been mentioned before, but don’t operate the wiper blades
when they are in the ‘replacement’ position with the hood up – I guarantee
it will scratch the paint on the windscreen edge. You only make this
mistake once!
