Sounds like a riot in the background at 2:12.
is this job really hard to do ? about how long is it on the impala?
12-14lbs-ft or a 1/4 turn after all the bolts are fully snug.
good video im actually in the procedure of doing it on my 04 gtp although its a little different can you please help me by telling me what is the torque specification on the bolts for the valve cover thnx
Front Valve cover gasket only takes about 20mins not including the time you spend cleaning the cover, give yourself an hour though
I have a more detailed video that I just made showing how to do both the front and back valve cover gaskets so if you need more help check my channel, good luck!
I just did this on my Impala 3.8L (3800 Series II) check my channel for a more detailed video

Thanks for the reply, I’ll keep looking and see what I can find…
Check the channel other videos. like this one /watch?v=8WM9aiZ0qnE and other sries video.
Great video!! But I need to see the rest of it…moving all the hoses, wires, (special issues for supercharged 3800s), removing the valve covers, cleaning sealing surfaces, inserting gaskets in covers, where the grommets go, replacing the covers, torquing the valve cover bolts and any special considerations for putting it all back together. Note that the link on the video to the next part is to “how to remove and replace the alternator bracket and the plastic elbows for heater coolant.” Thanks
No. The lower engine and transmission mount will still provide support. The engine should be able to move back and fought when the radiator support “dog-bone” mount is remove.
When you remove the top motor mount do you have to support the engine? My car is starting to leak and I want to do this job.
Only the one that is leaking should concern with. ;-)
what do I have to replace, the gasket, the valve cover or both???
thx so much!!!
it should take about 2hrs to complete the procedure. Carefully inspect the Valve Covers, for they are from the Plastic family. sometime the leaks may not be the VC rubber gasket, So check the plastic valve cover for warp age and deformation to its sealing edge. If the VC is the problem, You can substitute the plastic valve cover for a early 90`s late 80`s 3800 engine Valve cover.they early model are made of aluminum and painted like the gray plastic ones. 😉
Thx for the vid! How long should this repair typically take from start to finish?
1996 Pontiac bonneville 3.8 how do I remove the front trans/engine mount that has a shock absorber attached to it the rubber is broken
