There Is Only ONE Way To Fix Your BMW! | BMW F15 X5 DIY

In this video I show you how I fixed my 2014 BMW X5 with the N55 engine. I was getting only one code for my check engine light which was P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold). A generic scan tool was basically telling me I needed to change my catalytic converter. The car has about 110K miles and that seemed a little premature to me.

I show you the power of using a proper diagnostics tool like ISTA-D. It told me to look at my primary O2 sensor before I look any further. Even though I do not have a check engine light at all for my upstream oxygen sensor.

If you do not have access to ISTA you can use MHD with a D Can cable and an on the go adapter. The code reading functionality of MHD is free!

You can purchase a new o2 sensor for your X5 at this link (affiliate):

If this is the first video you’re catching of my consider subscribing. I upload regularly.

Thanks for watching!

Awesome contents as always. I wish I were as lucky as you getting the O2 sensor out. Despite having the right wrench with the slit for the wire, I managed to round off the sensor as it "welded" itself to the downpipe. What a PITA.

Hmmmm … ISTA looks pretty fundamental.

honestly its just that people assume the very first word they read on a scanner is the problem and begin replacing parts without thinking. of course the tools that are designed to read in detail what is going on with the computer is going to be better and more detailed than the generic scanner.

Niestety nie powinno się łączyć wtyczki w szerokopasmowych sądach lambda taka praktyka może powodować załamania w pomiarach . A ta sąda była szeroko pasmowa

Jacob Martin says:

When ever I have had this on a couple of vehicles, the vehicle was sitting for a while, and water collected in the exhaust. After driving it, the water came out, and it was fine for months. Consider an Italian tune up(After vehicle has been driving for 10 – 15 minutes revving hard).
