One Day Your BMW E90 WILL Require This | Quarter Window DIY

In this video I show you how to replace the rear quarter glass window seal that is built into the rear door.

Over time this seal crumbles away and becomes an eye store. It deteriorates in a similar way to the rear window seal and the front upper seal.

Plan for this to take a few hours and to have your car down for about a day.

Just as an informative note, you can fully slide the chrome piece out, so you don't have to lift up and risk bending it.

E60,s are just as bad.
You would think such a prestigious car manufacturer could at least get the UV recipe for a rubber compound , even lada does better .

What’s the frame panel above that called? I’m trying to replace mines

Excellent Job as well as the video! Mad props! What a pain in the ass with all the trim rotting out on these cars.

This will help me out on how to replace my E60 rear quarter glass. Got stuck when I realised I needed to cut into the silicon weld.

I have watched this video so many times trying to decide if i want to do this fix on my e90. I wish someone would just 3d print the outer trim piece and sell it. That way we could avoid such a big job for such a small issue.

Nicole Davis says:

Not the weather stripping but the plastic around it that goes around the rear small window came off What can I do?

Dude, you’re an AMAZING DIYer! Your information and knowledge behind why you do something is invaluable and honestly so very much appreciated. I’m one of those people that when asked to do something I say “Why?” Not to be an asshole but because I really want to know for what reason logically. That being said your painting/spaying of the plasti-dip was killing me to watch. Just in case you were curious as to why sprayers start and stop pressing the button. It’s so as to not create spotting on the piece they’re painting. You have to start and stop pressing that button PAST the piece not in the middle. You’ll either have dark and light contrasting color in the paint or texture that is unlike the rest. Just figured I’d let you know…Otherwise another fantastic diy. Thanks again

The final piece of my jigsaw puzzle. I bought a used rear door from a breaker. It was a bare door but still had a tinted rear quarter glass. What a job to strip my old door of all the seals, lift motor and lock assembly. It came with tinted quarter glass so I needed to swap it for my clear original. I spent a long time puzzling until I found your video. Thanks very much.

The trimming at the 7:47 mark ,where can I get the foam/rubber seal that goes behind it I was able to a very good set of the trims for both sides but it’s missing the plastic trim an also the rubber foamish trim

Rollin 335er says:

How is it holding up ??? Curious to see since others usually put primer

Jason Mahoney says:

That would have been a perfect candidate to wrap the trim vs plastidip. Metrorestyling sells a nice semigloss 3M wrap cut specific for that job. Did mine a few ears ago and it’s still looking great. Maybe a future video when the plastidip gives up.
