Did the job, but learned from the video. To stop the whole unit popping
out and landing on the ground, leave the nut attached by a few threads and
then push it out. This will make sure that you can put enough push on to
break the seal, but will retain it and stop it flying out. Take the nut
off completely to extract the whole unit.
I just changed one of my burned out bulbs, and ithis video was completely
different from my 2008 Mini Cooper S. All I did was remove that carpeted
side panel leading to the rear tail light area. There was nothing to
unscrew. All of the electrical cables and things are there in plain view.
You will then see a little knob that holds each of the bulbs for the tail
light. I turned the top one counterclockwise, and out it popped with bulb
attached. I just took out the old bulb and pushed in the new one. turned
the housing thingy back in clockwise and I was good to go. Took all of 5
minutes. No need to push out the tail light at all!

in there. I looked in the Haynes manual, which used to be my bible, and it
was absolutely useless. Your video, on the other hand was quick, simple

I am frustrated because I only need to change a bulb. It would seem I could
just pull out the wiring board to do so. Mine is NOT coming out easily. And
when you show it (about 2 minutes in) the camera is focused on the car
exterior so I can not see how you did it so easily. : (

light fixture. I just took out the wiring board, replaced the bulb (7528,
Sylvania), reattached the wires and popped it back in. Unscrewed the nut
for nothing.
This proves that no matter what you want to do, there’s a video of it on
YouTube. This was the first link I clicked on and it told me exactly what I

I just changed the indicator on a 2003 cooper and it wasn’t like this, it
doesn’t have the wiring board it has seperate turn and pull bulb holders
that never go back in secure.
It’s absolutely unnecessary to remove that nut – the wiring board (which
holds to lights) snaps out independently, as you can see in the video
itself. The nut only needs to be removed if you plan on taking the entire
light housing out (which isn’t needed to replace the lights)
Your wrong mate. Its easier to take the whole unit out to change a bulb.
Ive done it.. Unless you have baby hands and fingers it is hard to put the
light strip back again. Against a few minutes to unscrew and then tighten
the nut for the whole unit.

change it.

Do you mean you dont need to remove the nut if you are changing the BULBS ?

I need to check but i am guessing these are FOG lamps.
Why are there 3 light bulbs, but only 2 of them being used? The bulb on the
top does not turn on at all
