Thanks Tim. I've watched this several times before doing the valve cover and oil filter housing gaskets on my 2010 328xi today. Everything went smoothly except I forgot(!) to plug the Valvetronic motor in. Of course it didn't start. Can I plug and go? Or have I screwed up the camshaft position and need to do the relearn programming?

Freedom Pioneer says:

OK can anybody explain to me exactly how much this repair normally costs?

Olitoop says:

Great video. Followed all the steps and successfully replaced the gasket BUT something weird started happening shortly thereafter: when I start the car pressing the brake pedal down, the engine revs up and down as if I was pushing and releasing the accelerator every second. When I let go of the brake pedal, the revving up and down stops and everything goes back to normal. I press the brake pedal and the revving starts again. This only happens when I first start the car for the day. After I've driven it for a while, the revving disappears when the brake pedal is depressed. It looks like the problem fixes itself while I drive the car. But then it comes back the next day after the car's been idle for the night.
I tried to find the possible cause online but couldn't find the exact symptoms I'm experiencing. I read about brake fluid leaking and other things, but I don't understand how my replacing the valve cover gasket could have introduced this problem. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks a lot in advance for your expect advice, everyone!
