The install is very similar for E38, E39 and E46 models with slightly different trim panels to remove to access the switch in the column. This DIY specifically covers an E53 X5.

In my 2006 BMW X5 when I turn the ignition to the on position it’s continuously is cranking the starter but no start and the temperature gauge immediately goes all the way to the red at the same time. Do you have any ideas what it is? Tia

I have ordered an ignition switch for a BMW X5 2004 but the part we receive is slightly different then the part switch we are trying to replace. Are there two different ignition switches for our BMW model that are being sold? If so, does anyone no where I can get them both?
