Linh Tran says:

@bimmersgarage HI did you re-check that ? still tigth ? according to BMW
Spec that is M10 bolt and that should torque to 47 newton meter = 35 foot
pound

teamfalconsports says:

I won’t let me link the video…..sorry.

BimmersGarage says:

@Jetubeb I’m going to send you a URL about the issues you might face, look
for it in your inbox.

krakpatsboem says:

Thanks for the vid dude, but can you tell me what the silver iron bar is
for? Is it to make the car stays straight in corners?? Becouse i want that
to!! Greetz.

BimmersGarage says:

Thank you. I have personally gone through hundreds of how-to videos myself
that were way too long on certain topics when all I wanted to know was just
a specific part of a process. So, when I decided to produce/make my own
videos I figure I would make it easy & simple for everyone by separating
the major steps/processes out into more concise (ie: shorter) vids which
allows people to get to the “meat” of the how-to’s quicker without having
to waste time watching a 25-45 minute film..

Jetubeb says:

what model is that? I have a 2002 325xi and my pulleys look different. They
have I believe a T50 or T60 Screws attached to tensioners.

alexlex85 says:

My e36 323 1999 convertible sounds a bit electric .like a whining noise
which increases with the revs.alternator not a prob. U reckon it could be
one of this pulley? Cheers! Thanks for sharing

mailtostu says:

hi, is the procedure much different for a 1992 e34 525i? thanks

BimmersGarage says:

@bugleboy154 Good to hear my vids assisted you in your DIY. I’m sure your
car sounds a lot better! Remember to subscribe. I will be posting many more
videos in the near future.

BimmersGarage says:

Damn it.. You caught me. I know, I know – never use a torque wrench to
loosen anything. Actually, that bolt was already loosened so I just grabbed
whatever was available as I was filming. Thanks for your comments.

Mike Reyes says:

I actually like your approach rather than watching the ENTIRE project.

fuma87 says:

You made a good job! Very detailed! I will do that too with my 2002
330i…im going to change both belts, the idler pulley, the tensioner
pulley next to the idler pulley and the tensioner pulley for the belt of
the ac…also the waterpump and the thermostat…i hope i will make it 😀

Nick Chang says:

721 – Torque wrenches with reversible ratchet Standard MANOSKOP® 721 Torque

parts. Any force applied to the tool after the “click” or applied in the
opposite direction to the current function – e.g. forcible loosening of a

damage to it.

Imothep says:

is this a M60B30 engine?

Vital Caron says:

ur retarded dude. u totally didnt show the process of removing belt. ur a
faggot. the bolt goes right here. duh.. my bolt goes in ur hole dumbass

Linh Tran says:

@bimmersgarage Great You said to torque to 10 inch pound or foot pound
Thanks

Criminaljustice79 says:

Is the tensioner and idler pulley the only componets in the belt area that
would normally making that bearing failure sound? I recently had the
tensioner replace but am getting this exact sound from the belt area when i
rev the engine. Thanks any advice would be helpful

BimmersGarage says:

@mailtostu The bolt size and model number of the pulley may be different
for your vehicle.. You will need to check and confirm that you have the
correct unit and torque specs. The removal and install process should be
very similar though. Just remember to put back the dust cap on the pulley
afterwards – to protect the bearings from dirt & debris. Good luck.

BimmersGarage says:

@krakpatsboem Thanks for watching. That silver bar is just a Strut Brace..
it’s mainly to stiffen structure and prevent flex in hard corning. It’s an
adjustable aluminum unit.

freebirthfreddy says:

Did you use a torque wrench as a breaker bar? O_o Nice how-to otherwise!

BimmersGarage says:

@alexlex85 Hard to say at this point.. Let me ask you, when was the last
time you replaced the belts (Serpentine or A/C)? How many miles on this
vehicle? Also, do you have a vid of the noises it’s making??

BimmersGarage says:

Thanks. You should be able to do this within a hour following my video.
Just make sure you re-route the serpentine belt back on correctly. Good
luck.

BimmersGarage says:

@Jetubeb This video is for a 02 RWD 330i sedan. You may have the newer
hydraulic type tensioner unit on your vehicle. The removal procedure is a
bit different. Do a search for your type. Just be Careful to use the
correct Torx socket…. so to avoid stripping the small bolt. Good luck.

Alex K says:

hey how to remove the belt?

BimmersGarage says:

son.. You type like you just graduated from elementary school. If my
video(s) wasn’t helpful or informative to you, then there’s plenty more on
Youtube to learn from. No need to show us your childish temper and self
hatred/anger. I forgive you. And, I hope you will find peace within your
heart some day.

mailtostu says:

@mailtostu – thanks, i did find it before you replied in the end.
appreciate the advice!

BimmersGarage says:

@linhtran2168 That would be (ft lb.s) foot pounds.

teamfalconsports says:

Can you tell me if the noise you hear is a bad pulley?

BimmersGarage says:

@schl0tte It’s a M54 actually..

John Tullos says:

5/8″ ? On a BMW it should be metric. What’s the metric size? That’s the set
of sockets I have.

BimmersGarage says:

Again, read the video description. I produced the videos in easy to follow
sections to focus on different areas of the engine bay, separately. Instead
of making a long 20-30 minute video just to reach 1 engine part.

Nick Chang says:

The Stahlwille Manoskop torque wrench also makes a distinctively loud click
that can be heard and felt through handle and you dont have to twist handle
to get to desired torque its a push of a lever reset to zero not necessary
when done its a no load system uses leverage very nice equipment
interchangable heads make very adaptable just spendy

BimmersGarage says:

Hmm… well, you can definitely try. But, unless you have a lift to raise
the car high enough, I think you’ll find it Tougher to try it from the
bottom. Because the pulley is closer to the top of the motor. Also, you’ll
need to remove the radiator fan & shroud… which Only slide out from the
top. But, if you try it… let me know if you can. I would like to know for
future reference. Thanks

BimmersGarage says:

@LCBULLDAWGS30 Replace it.

Criminaljustice79 says:

@bimmersgarage yeah, at the time i just did what the dealer told me, i just
took a video and moved my phone around each pulley and the loudest noise
was coming from the idler. the tensioner is only like a month old so
hopefully not too late to remedy this.. give me a min to upload the vid

BimmersGarage says:

@frtzdkt Indeed.. That’s very good to know. Thanks for sharing that bit of
information. I’ll have to look into some of these fine German Stahwille
tools then.

krakpatsboem says:

@bimmersgarage Thanks for the info !!! Greetz.

tonycstech says:

another video that starts in the middle of project instead of in the
beginning. Why wont anyone show how to remove the belt ?

humpty says:

if you need to change the pulley by its self it is eazyer to just do it
from the bottom

Nick Chang says:

you can use a torque wrench to remove bolt if you use the correct one!
Stahwille torque wrenches are capable of that thats why I own three. German
tools on German autos! :p

LCBULLDAWGS30 says:

hey what do you do if the idler seems to be stripped ?

bugleboy154 says:

Great video! I used several of your videos when I switched out my pulleys
and belts.

BimmersGarage says:

@Criminaljustice79 What’s the mileage on your BMW? The likelihood are high
for these two components to be making these sounds when their bearings
fail; however if you have a high mileage bimmer, you may have other
component failures, like the steering pump, alternator, or water pump. Do
you have a vid of the noises in your vehicle? (NOTE: you should not have
replaced only the tensioner Alone back when you had it done. Tensioner AND
idler should be replaced as a set, at the same time. FYI.)

BimmersGarage says:

@docock69 Agreed.. Torque wrenches are meant for tightening. I just happen
to grab whatever tool was near by when filming this. Thank you for
commenting. And, I look forward to more of your technical videos in the
near future.
