Thanks for the video. I followed step for step, locked the horse shoe in and went to try the key and I couldn't get my key in the lock. Any help would be appreciated.

Great video(as are all your e46 vids), I'm on the other side of the pond in the UK and this video really helped me a lot!

Great video. You must be careful not to remove the lock cylinder. This happened to me and the time of repair was extended by half an hour. 🙂

Mark Dunthorn says:

Fixed my lock using this today and helped a lot. Brilliant. Cheers.

Just watched this for my '01 330ci. My door jam is slightly different but I think yours is a sedan. Lock assembly was identical. I will say two things about this repair.
1) This man is VERY INFORMATIVE. I have watched several of his videos on the upkeep on my 330.
2) That spring inside the lock cylinder, is the spawn of satan. No seriously. Try not to get mad during this repair. Took me 3 IPAs and a lot of patience and cussing up a storm. He makes the spring part look easy. IT'S NOT. PERIOD.

Hi jayson just wondering if you can help me out my door cant open i think someone forces to open it from.outside (driver side door) how can i fix the latch? Remote key works/manual but i cant open it from inside or outside.thinking to take it off the panel from inside but really dont know what to replace/take off inside the door panel.pls help thank you very much.

Dexon says:

well, how would I open my door to repair this if my lock cylinder is already broken and remote doesn't work as well…??

Lewis72 says:

You star !!
This is EXACTLY what I need to do to my E60 530i. I've just collected it from the garage, where they were meant to fix this but they didn't. They change the mechanism inside the door but failed to identify the door barrel spindle failure.
I'll do it myself and then tell them how crap they were.

Excellent guide! Sharp, well-focused video – and yes, you did make it look too easy. 🙂 I had to trim down the new replacement part that breaks on the OEM hardware – the wings on the stepped side were about 1mm too tall on my replacement – if I'd have figured that out sooner, I would have been done much faster!

Gretchen Zimmermann says:

Thank you a ton for such a detailed video. You saved me a bunch of money. One question: If I'm a cheap bastard and I put off buying a new battery/key, how long will the new part last (same one shown broken in the video)?
