my local shop advised me of a “tired” timing belt, i know this is a “need
to replace” item when it’s service is due. although, now funding is very
limited, how long is too long to wait? 2005 mkiv gti awp engine code with
almost 1175xx mi. i’ve owned the car since late 2011 and haven’t done this
service, I’m willing to bet previous owner didn’t either, if so, it was
done early in this car’s life.
Thank you for putting up this video. Very nicely done to clearly see what
needs doing and what tools are needed. And the follow up to this video
would be how to do it with a minimum of special tools. For those who want
to do that. Would be interested in a video link if one is already done.

About 900 miles or so, on the car, a dash light, came on. I was alarmed. I
checked the tire pressure. It was 65 psi, in all for tires. I called up the
dealership, & was told, that is the pressure, in the tires, when the car is
shipped from Germany. Another RED flag, should have came on, but NOT. I
have 2,554 actual miles on my car. On may 16th, I was driving North, on the
freeway 41. My car had been here, with a car cover on it. the trip, was
only, 11 miles, to pick up fast food, dinner. cont.
On May 6th, I accepted the keys, to a VW Golf TDI, HB, 6 speed. I had
driven my Ford Windstar 2002, 815 miles, to pick up the VW. B4 i left the
dealership, I noticed, that the windshied washer fluid was very low. I
knew, from working at a 76 Gasoline station, that when a car is serviced,
EVERYFLUID is checked. A RED flag, should have gone off, but, I was too
excited, a NEW car and all. The car had 66 miles on the odometer. It should
have been another red flag, but, NOT. After returning home,.
traveling at 59 miles an hour, all traffic WAS passing me. I was using
Cruise Control, at 59 mph. Upon coming to my exit, i switched off the
cruise control. Upon applying the Service Brake pedal, the brake pedal,
WENT TO THE Floor. I was traveling at 50 mph or so. NO BRAKES. Since i was
in one of the left turning lanes, i QUICKLY was able to attempt, a right
turn, so I swerved across TWO lanes, glad there was no cars there. My VW
became AIRBOUND. The Left Front Wheel BUSTED off, at the Spindle

went to the floor? On a 2013 VW Golf? The local VW Service Advisor, told me
the VW WAS not Serviced, Properly. Do you believe, the 66 miles, was a joy
ride, and the car was not PRE-DELIVERLY Inspected properly? Car is sitting
here, Local vw body had it. Ins WANTED 2 spray paint a NEW fender. I want a
NEW car. What do u think. Lemon Law Attorneys, said, a cash settlement,
replacement, or a REFUND, what do U think?
Did you know that you forgot to control the tension of the tensioner after
rotate the crankshaft 2 times? And one more little thing, when you put the
timing belt, you start with the crankshaft sprocket, then the waterpump,
then the upper roller ….. (counter clock wise). Except for this, it´s a
great video. thumbs up.
Check how you do it on Peugeot 406 its much simpler, no need to take te
engine out. the same goes for rear brakes, you don’t need any special tools
from VW. That’s a real engeneering.
How many miles on this engine? Sounds as if, there was a jumped tooth, on
the engine timing belt. Addiing fuel, was just a coincidence.

I now see why the local garage charges £200 for the complete job, supply &
fit! You make it look easy. I always wondered how exactly you would know
everything was correct when fitting a new one, so never bothered! A friend
shoved one on his Ford Focus and ruined the engine. He cut the old belt off
and prized a new one on and got a surprise when he put the covers on and
turned the key. I think it cost him a further £800 of repairs for trying to
save £100 on fitting.
I have a 2006 Jetta 2.0 about three days ago I put gas in and like an hour
later my car started sputtering when accelerating. I tried running out the
gas and adding dry gas no change. What else could be my issue? It only does
it while accelerating, while seating still I do notice it shakes a little.

No this one is a 2.0L TDI and you say yours is the 1.6L which has a
different layout for the belt, and most likely different torque specs. The
process is similar though.

Worse engine ever made. Someone in my family had a A4 2.0 TDI quattro… it
blew the f… up, end of the story.

You pay $400 because if you mess up a job like this your engine is knackered

What problems have you had with this engine ?
If anyone could answer, I have 2012 Jetta sportwagen tdi which i bought
from an auction…. anyways, it sustained damage to the front end,
generator belt was ripped and some pieces were tangled on the timing
belt…. so now when i clean everything and put everything together, i
start the engine but it wont start it just cranks and wont fire up…. does
it have timing position wrong or fuse or ?? 30k miles on it 2012 year
If you DON’T know… maybe you shouldn’t be the one replacing the belt….
just sayin…
