How to replace your turbo!
If you are getting P0299 Underboost Check Engine Light Code on your 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015 2.0L engine Audi A4 A5 or Q5 you most likely have a bad turbo due to the wastegate being loose.
In this video I will show you how to Diagnose and Replace the turbocharger along with install a ebay test pipe in place of the catalytic converter.
This took me about 12 hours to do by myself with no help, along with filming it. If I wasn’t filming I could have done it in probably 10 hours. If I ever do it again, I could get it done in one day. If you don’t remove the catalytic converter and just replace the IHI K03 turbo itself it will take you a lot less time, but what fun is that!

Grant McCarron says:

Another great Audi video, thanks. Looks like I need to do this now too and this will be my step-by-step guide. Am thinking I will have mine rebuilt, rather than buy a used one. Wondering how you liked the test pipe? Did it become really loud, or trigger CEL's at all? Thanks again! Liked + Subscribed. I have watched this several times now πŸ™‚

Phoenix says:

Thanks for the video! I’m having to replace my ko3 as well. I have a stage2 tune already so won’t be replacing the Cat just the turbo. How long should this take me

Eddie Escobedo says:

Hey, I was wondering if you had to reset the engine light after replacing the turbo? I just replaced mine and my engine light still showed even after I took it for a test drive. Thanks

Mchristopher91 says:

Another question for you, what brand turbo did you replace it with? And have you had any issued with aftermarket life compared to oem?

Randall Miles says:

Hey, I need to bring our A4 to you and pay you to do the install. ? Thanks for the video.

Mchristopher91 says:

is the heat shield needed to be removed? my 6mm screw stripped(i was able to remove the second one no problem;the one on the right in this video. ) and i opted for bending the shield enough to get to bolts. Witch i already loosened(sheild can be bent back into place) . im stopping for the day as i have work in the morning.

MILEHIGH JAX says:

Alright, the install went great! The power is restored. The only thing I messed up on was that dang coolant banjo bolt behind the manifold! Didn't torque it enough and it leaked.. ughh.. took about another 2 hours to pull the turbo off the flange to access it and tighten it down got about another 3/4 turn on the crush washers and it sealed it just fine. no leak now.. if I had to do it again it would be super easy. Hardest part was the install part. Removal was easy. Thank you again for this video, it helped me Immensely and with the confidence to DIY this.. if anyone else needs help or tips dont hesitate to respond to this comment.. I'm here to forward the knowledge. Thanks again. Till next time.

Oh I'll look forward to the next timing belt change video for the Audi . Lol ouch looks tough I bet.

06goatm6 says:

A little clumsy but glad to see the whole process before diving in

MILEHIGH JAX says:

So I bought a new borgwarner oem ko3.. preparing for install in the few next days.. my only concern is priming the turbo with oil.. they said I need to cold crank it for 1 min. In 15-30 sec Intervals. Before a start.. they said if I dont it could void the warranty if it burns up.. they said to disconnect the fuel pump.. but I tried that, pulled pump fuses pulled high pressure fuel connector. It just kept running.. lol and I dont want to mess anything up with the electronics or cause other damages… did you feel the Turkey baster method worked just fine? Did it stay full? Or did it keep draining back into the oil pan? Hmmm I might be overthinking this.. what do you think?

Alicia Barnes says:

Audi quoted me $4,500 to replace my turbo in my 2013 Q5. How much did this repair cost you?

NYDCB says:

Audzine sent me here! So, what's the cost comparison to rebuild the turbo vs. buy new?

jeff Dupont says:

Nice job. Is that a quattro ?

Cody Sparbeck says:

Great video – I haven't heard of the KO3 turbo. I just replaced my the turbo on my 2007 Audi a4, using your video as a guide, with a rotomaster, and it ran well for 2 weeks and then I noticed it blew smoke twice – 2 days in a row. So Im going to return it. However the KO3 is much cheper than the Rotomaster. How reliabel is the KO3?

Nick Rajoppe says:

Awesome video man can't wait to do mine this week. Seems pretty straight forward! Look forward to your future videos πŸ™‚

Eltalivan V says:

Cars and Coding. Does the check engine light came on because the test pipe? Awesome video!

Chris P says:

Spot on, very informative.

cydls688fa tech says:

Very calm on explaining and details, thank you I need to replace my Audi A4 P 0299 code, thank you very much, and we have to replace the test pipe also in this case?
Btw which turbo were you getting, type and model no, thank you once again

Dave Morris says:

Thanks very much for taking the time to make this. Really appreciate it. I'm subscribing.

RoBB's Mind says:

This is great! Thanks for taking the time to show us how step by step. I wish I saw this before having my K04 installed last week! Subbed!
