From what you’re describing, it sounds like the ignition switch may be
acting up. We carry new ones on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

1A Auto Parts says:

probably about an hour to an hour and a half. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Shinta Laursen says:

how long did it take to do this? I have a mobile mechanic coming to replace
mine, and I don’t want to get ripped off. Thanks!

1A Auto Parts says:

It the battery cables are all clean, you may want to check the ignition to
see if that’s acting up. Also check for any bad grounds or loose wires in
the engine bay. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Maurice Simmons says:

My 98 accord runs very well but somtimes decides to turn off while I’m
driving. The tip is the rpms go to zero and I feel the power steering
stiffin up but, I put it in neutral and it starts right back up and I keep
it moving. I already changed the distributor, rotor button, cap, SP and SP
wires and battery. Is it the ignition switch, module or what?

1A Auto Parts says:

We currently do not carry an ignition switch for that particular
application. Thanks for visiting us on YouTube. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Harley Tuatapo says:

Will the accord ignition switch fit my 98 prelude?

1A Auto Parts says:

The ignition may be worn in it.

1A Auto Parts says:

@bdfd3001 If you’re having a hard time turning the ignition with the key,
it could be that the switch is worn.

1A Auto Parts says:

@datniggarobb623 It’s always a good idea to do this before performing any
type of work on your car so that you do not short something out, or
accidently start the vehicle.

1A Auto Parts says:

@sweetkicker24 We currently do not have a supplier for this particular
part. Thank you for checking out our auto repair channel on YouTube.

Matthew White says:

What is the tightening torque of those bolts? Do I need to worry they’re
near the air-bag?

GHOST519 says:

it takes me a couple tries to start my car when i first turn the key i get
nothing, it wont turn over no dashboard lights or anything but if i do it a
couple times it will eventually turn on, does that sound like the ignition
itself or the ignition switch?

1A Auto Parts says:

it could be, you may also want to check and clean the battery terminals to
see if they’re corroded.

1A Auto Parts says:

It sounds like you might have a bad ignition switch.

1A Auto Parts says:

If you have a flat head screw driver you should be able to back them out.

petepi1981 says:

@1aauto my a/c blower, radio, and windows stop working when i start my car
everything works in the on position but when i start it it cuts off it
seems to happen when it rains too can this be a bad ignition switch

TrollRaper69 says:

I also have a 96 accord and just recently i would turn the key and get
nothing.until now WITHOUT the key in it,it tries to start unless i
disconnect both pos and neg batt terminals im trying to figure out if i
need a new ignition switch,if i insert the key while the engine is cranking
itself and turn to the on position it will start but it sounds like the
starter is not disengaging ..i hope you can supply me with some feedback
and that i was descriptive enough

1A Auto Parts says:

You may need a torx bit to trmove them.

1A Auto Parts says:

@itzkhak If they’re rivets, you may have to drill them out and replace them
with bolts.

Rangel says:

My Honda Prelude 98 SH keeps turning off suddenly while driving. It gives no
warning or anything. Light,ac,radio still works when car dies. I call in
Honda and they said the ignition switch recall has already been done to my
car, could it be that its gone bad?

arram731 says:

the engine light doesn’t lit while im driving, so i’ve check the ignition
switch to my acura vigor and I saw a one of the wire of the ignition switch
cut-off (black and white wire) then it was connected near the engine. its
hard to describe that part I can send you the pics.

1A Auto Parts says:

There may be a loose electrical connection somewhere that’s causing this
issue.

1A Auto Parts says:

You should be able to key the new ignition to use your existing key.

1A Auto Parts says:

If that’s the case then it probably wouldn’t hurt to replace the switch.
You may want to try to see if that works.

1A Auto Parts says:

Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

1A Auto Parts says:

@DavidFrazier524 if there was a recall on the switch and it hasn’t been
fixed it wouldn’t hurt to fix the issue. It may even clear up the issue that
you are having.

1A Auto Parts says:

The issue could be related to the distributor not working correctly. You
might want to make sure you are getting voltage to the spark plugs for the
distributor and go from there.

Ryan Kelly says:

if it is stuck then what if not then what?

amanda mancino says:

question: I have a 1994 honda accord lx, the other night i went to start it
and it would start and after maybe one second it would cut itslelf back
off, I have changed my fuel filter, main relay, all plugs and wires as well
as valve cover gasket…. and still doesn’t want to stay on… what could
it be? Btw I know its not my fuel pump its coming on just fine

1A Auto Parts says:

We currently do not have an auto repair video on that particular year

this repair.

Rangel says:

@1980brownsfan i would say its your Ignition Switch And Lock Cylinder

1A Auto Parts says:

@CBR1100xx31 Yes the symptom you describe can be due to a worn ignition
switch

spineblaZe says:

Thank you so much for posting this video!

jemapellebeny says:

What problems does a faulty ignition switch cause, just before i got
changie ti (in case it isn’t my cause of problem) My car just shuts off
when driving and when idling if i jiggle the key around abit. Thanks for
the video too

1A Auto Parts says:

You could try to reconnect it as the factory had it, to see if that solves
your issue.

Matthew White says:

Thank you much. Plan to replace the switch this weekend and found this to
be super helpful. You should start each video with a brief list of symptons
that are caused by the defective part you’re replacing. (just a thought).

petepi1981 says:

@1aauto started up a/c n all worked then took it for a drive and when i hit
a bump or went thru puddle it goes out then came right back on then i
pulled over began turning the wheel (which makes a grinding noise) back and
forth it stayed on,until i put into drive it cut off.took it home cut if
off started it up everything was fine again my wiring on underneath the car
looks suspect but i don’t know what to look for any pics diagrams for me to
go off of

1A Auto Parts says:

There may be a pin on it that you need to press in to release it from the
column but not 100% sure. We currently do not have an auto repair video
that shows this particular auto repair.

1A Auto Parts says:

It might be similar.

1A Auto Parts says:

it could be, you may want to have the fuel pressure checked.

Theresa Yost says:

How do you know if you should replace just the ignition switch, or the
cylinder also???

blindsided909 says:
