Fix a broken Crankshaft Pulley Harmonic Balancer Repair | Honda Acura | Toyota Lexus | Bundys Garage

Crankshaft pulley broke, call it a harmonic balancer and it has snapped in half or the outer ring and inner ring are no longer attached. Well look no further. I show you how to use JB Weld to fix that crankshaft pulley so it’s like new and it will only cost you $10 bucks.

Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Crankshaft Harmonic Balancer. … Its purpose is to absorb and reduce harmonic vibrations from the engine as the crankshaft rotates, as harmonic vibrations at high engine speeds can cause accelerated wear and damage to the components.

The purpose of the harmonic balancer is to reduce engine vibration and in many cases, serve as a pulley for drive belts. Harmonic balancer’s do have many names, though, such as damper, crankshaft pulley and crankshaft balancer, among others.

One of the first symptoms of a potential problem with the harmonic balancer is engine vibration. The harmonic balancer is specifically designed to absorb harmonic engine vibrations as engine speeds rise. … The shaking will become even more pronounced, and therefore dangerous to the engine at high speeds.

A crankshaft pulley powers components on the crankshaft. Crankshafts are responsible for driving the car wheels. Crankshaft pulleys transmit mechanical power and torque, or the force of motion, through the pulley system to additional car elements, such as the power steering pump and alternator.

Phillip Smith says:

So did it work long term?

stangmaster 2 says:

HOW TO MAKE A TICKING TIME BOMB 101!!
Don't cheap out on important parts.
This car should not be on the road, the guy who has been working on it is a rank amateur!

Phillip Smith says:

So how do you get a crankshaft bolt off without the pulley being on it? I am rebuilding a 2.2 liter Honda accord, spun the engine to make sure pistons and rings were okay. Now I can't get the crankshaft bolt off. Help!

El Okim says:

JB WELD HAS BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTING FOR ME , TERRIBLE FOR METAL GLASS OR PLASTIC SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK

Roberto Ramos says:

Yo lo hice con resina en lo que me llegaba la polea que compre en ebay.

S Wilson says:

Well Bundy its been 3 months does it still work? I'm leaning towards no…

EBBCO REPAIRS says:

It will work fine for daily city driving, its when you hit the freeway and it needs to absorb resonance, that will eventually cause inner engine damage. Its a great fix until you can get a new balancer.

Danielle Crossiendo says:

Wear gloves. Don't touch the epoxy. Coating both surfaces is ideal for such a high strength application. Wish you had video of your results instead of just hearsay. Thanks for the info! Liked. Subscribed.

stangmaster 2 says:

Do you have a brother named Al?

stangmaster 2 says:

The balance is assembled at the factory, HOT.
That causes the parts to weld together, with the rubber.
It is a press fit, done with a hydraulic press.
Then, it is bolted to a balancing machine taking into account a certain clocking.
If not clocked right, you will set vibrations that could destroy a bearing or so.
JB weld is not flexible, and you Mickey Mouse repair may cost you a radiator, AC condenser, and shrapnel damage under the hood, and possibly hurt innocent bystanders.
You should have spent the $100 or so, instead of rigging up a time bomb.

pmiculeanici says:

Would it still do it's job at absorbing vibration If you use JB weld instead of a rubber ring?

David Hollfelder says:

There’s likely a timing notch on the ring that lines up with the key way on the middle part.

Rudy Munoz says:

what are the symptoms of one going bad? does it make the same sounds like the tensioner pulley?
