I ended up with a cheap 2010 Lexus ES350 and now we’re fixing everything on it. The factory navigation screen has turned almost completely yellow after years of use and 253,000 miles. Today I’m going to take it out, tear the massive assembly down, and get the screen out so I can replace it. Getting the radio and nav out is very simple, but tearing down the assembly is a pretty involved process. After the parts get here it’ll be bye bye yellow navigation screen, and that much closer to a perfect car.

7:50 never try pick out screens zip body parts is much easyer
Just so I’m clear. The part that needs to be replaced to fix the yellow screen is the digitizer?
I have a working but have yellowed screen in my 2010 GX460
This guy never shows the end of what was started LMAO.
huge thumb down from me.
I dread the day that the screen goes out on my ‘12 Camry XLE.
did u know u could remove the front film of the screen an swap it out with a cut out from an old LCD screen and it would work perfect and be restored to original colors
every time I watch someone pop those plastic bezels I imagine how many clips I'd break doing that job. Ouch.
That is quite the job… wow.
Where is the gold ratchet? "bring me the gold ratchet"!
Great demo as it shows why in every car, it is a nightmare and super expensive to replace the navigation screen no matter what the model is. I had a 2004 Honda Accord with a navigation screen that died after 12 years and 150,000 miles along with the transmission. The car was toast as the LCD would have cost $5000 to replace, and the transmission another $5000 – for a car worth $5000 if it ran. Suffice to say I sold it for parts as it was not worth saving.

Perfect car to have Soundman do an IPad dash mod
Tesla fixed my yellowing centre screen with a black light box. Would that not work for your Lexus screen?
Oh My Gosh !! Definitely not for the faint of heart to take that Console and Navigation unit apart. Disassembly is the easy part, now lets see how long it takes to put together and see how it works. My bet is there will be left off screws…. Entertaining to watch…
Looks like a job that’s worth spending the money for someone else to do.. at least for me
As a mechanic, Toyotas are my favourite interiors to disassemble. It's like lego! Meanwhile the European cars take some effort to take the interior apart as if they superglued the panels, the euro car interiors do rattle less in return. I install dash cams in my vehicles and like running the wire under trim pieces to hide it. Installing one on my Toyota Sienna, piece of cake. Installing one on my BMW and VW Golf took much more effort.
Wouldn't this be better if you swapped out that OEM unit for an Android unit so you could have android auto and apple carplay?
I would've waited until I had the new screen in my hands before taking the old one out. The new one you've ordered could come up missing or something like that.
I had a Lexus GS300 at work, it was about 10 years old and absolutely amazing. It had the Mark Levinson sound system and is honestly the best in-car hifi I have heard.
I replaced the navigation screen on my 2003 Mercedes W220 S500L and it was a walk in the park compared with the Lexus! Ok- maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but it was definitely simpler.
You did it for the process. Someone will watch that video for how to replace it. Also props to your brother whenever you say your shirt tagline for representing. Are you going to have more people in the shop at a certain point? Besides the detail guys.
so sad, JR has a 20,000 square foot shop but no work bench. has to huddle around a oil drum like a homeless guy.
Lol I like the way you used the same ending on the last couple of videos. Watching the brother in law mime the actions behind you is the best bit
What was the total screw and clip count? I'd have to closely film every step to get that unit back together.
Don't eat the yellow screen.. I mean snow
If John was into red wine he’d be WatchJRMerlot.
