Wilson Baeza says:

I have a 2004 burgman 650 is it the same process????

MicBergsma says:

Yes it’s same thing, easier since there are nothing around them like exhaust on the rear

SF DRUMMER says:

how bout the front, are they just as easy ?

MicBergsma says:

haha, I clean it maybe like twice a month so it won’t be too dirty or hard to wash 🙂 thanks

steve Mcmurray says:

crikey mate, could ur scooter be anymore cleaner?!?!? haha i have an 06 uh125 and jesus.. it’s filthy, doesn’t help that it’s all sprayed in black down there.. but hands are going to be demolished after i do mine today. nice work

Cleaning of the clutch variator pads using emery cloth will solve the linkage unpleasant beginning of the trip, which should be done every variator treatment

I know this is an old comment about getting the brakes off the bike. Buy an electric impact wrench (type of wratchet drill) electric. These are cheap and often on sale at HarborFreight for $39 to 49 USD. I luckily didn’t have to use it on the rear brake- but I did on removing the front. Be sure to get impact sockets too. DO NOT use this to put the bolts back on – use a torque ratchet like Mitch shows in the video. Also cheap for under $20 at Harbor Freight.

MicBergsma says:

hi, it’s pretty common for burgman 400… it should be ok

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I have a Burgman 400, ’09, and there is 5800 miles on it, in excellent condition, only I’ve noticed of late that there is alot of rough shaking when I first start off, and it smooths out once I give it throttle, and I’ve even noticed that it lets up after I’ve been riding it along time, or it’s hot, it seems to be alleviated. Is that rubber belt on it’s way out? Is that the problem? What do you think?

MicBergsma says:

ya I can do that, just wrote it down on notebook to remind me to do that

majorghn says:

Can you make a video showing worn brake pads and how thin they should be and a tool to measure so we know when to replace them?

ArcanePath360 says:

God damn it! I’ve just broken another brand new ratchet socket wrench trying to get the brakes off. How in the hell do they come off? I sprayed loads of WD40 round them but the nuts just won’t budge. I guess I’m gonna have to pay £100 for the mechanic to do it at this rate. The wind and rain isn’t helping either. Oh well 🙁

ArcanePath360 says:

Thanks a lot, I managed to source a syringe now. I have a major job on Saturday, as the harsh winter has really seized my front brake (damn bike cover doesn’t cover the front wheel)

MicBergsma says:

I think I did that before on a different bike.. take the pads out and clean around the pistons then put pads back.. should be safe, you could spray the brake cleaner but careful not spray on other things.. cover other things with towel . don’t touch the brake lever while doing that

ArcanePath360 says:

Thanks for your help. I just realized I don’t have a syringe. Would leaving the brake fluid in there be okay if I were really careful and didn’t push the piston in? (just brushed gently around it)

MicBergsma says:

Welcome, glad to help! Yes you have to make sure the piston head is aligned with the + shape on the top, if you didn’t then the pad will not moving right.. u know?
Use the car wash soap, it’s safe. I got some brushes to clean in small spot where you cant reach with your hands. I washed brake caliper with dish soap, just a bit with warm water and use old toothbrush. I was lazy to go to store to get brake cleaner, spray on the caliper, make sure won’t touch the other bike parts

ArcanePath360 says:

Thanks! This helped me a lot. I’ve always been scared to take my brakes apart, but my front one has just seized up on me and I’m not paying a mechanic if I don’t have to.
2 questions:
1: horizontal? Do you mean the way the cross on the head is aligned?
2: I was taught that washing up liquid=bad. And as my bike is so filthy after a rough winter could I use something like solvent or wheel cleaner?

Thanks a lot, stylishy made tutorial.
